Headteacher's Update 17 October 2025

Dear Parents and Carers
We have had another great week in school, with lots of sporting events taking place. Thank you for your support to help our young people participate in these events and opportunities.
Next week is a shorter week, as school is closed to students on Friday for staff INSET training. All students are then back in school on Monday 3 November.
What’s going on in school:
- It was Y7’s turn to take part in our Interhouse netball and football competitions this week and they really got in to the spirit of things with fantastic support and encouragement from their fellow students.
- PCSO Brockett held a lunchtime drop-in session in school last Friday. He spoke with students on a variety of topics, particularly raising awareness of Hate Crime, in conjunction with the recent national campaign highlighting this issue. Students asked lots of questions and completed questionnaires on their opinion on crime in their local area.
- Well done to our netball teams who played in the KS4 High Peak Tournament on Wednesday night. The Y11s came 2nd, losing by a narrow margin to Chapel. Well done to the Y10s who won the High Peak Tournament!! A fantastic performance from all teams, but particular mention must go to players in the B teams who drive the potential and ambition amongst players to get in to the A teams. Everyone that contributes to the netball squad should be super proud. Training resumes next Wednesday night and KS3 fixture against Chapel will be announced shortly.
- Y7 and y9 played football matches against teams from Chapel High School earlier this week. Y9 won their game 2-1. Y7 played well but unfortunately lost their game. Well done to all involved.
- Three students in Year 9 completed the Kinder Challenge walk with their scout group last weekend. Charlie, Tom and Alex took part in a 17km timed hike starting from the scout hut in Chapel en le Frith and skirting the edge of Kinder. They completed the challenge in 2 hours and 38 minutes, coming first and beating the previous record by 21 minutes!!!! Fantastic!
- Members of the library's SketchBook art club have been busy creating their own journals with drawings, words and collage. SketchBook is open every Tuesday lunchtime and everyone is welcome to come and choose a notebook to embellish in their own style.
- Congratulations to Charlie in Y11 who has been selected to go to the World Scout Jamboree in Gdansk, Poland in August 2027, where scouts and explorers from around the world meet for a 2-week event. There are 20 young people attending from Derbyshire, along with representatives from other parts of the UK. Applicants had to complete a written application, then attend and assessment and interview selection day. Charlie now has a lot of fundraising to do!!
- Our Sports Leaders did a brilliant job organising a tag rugby tournament for our local primary school children on Thursday afternoon. Our primary sports events provide a great opportunity for Sports Leaders to develop their leadership skills.
