Headteacher's Update 12 September 2025

Dear Parents and Carers
What a fabulous week it has been in school. It has been delightful to meet Year 7 who have made a fantastic start to their careers at Hope Valley College. Every other year group has also made a very positive start to term. Our attendance has been good this week and we know the value our young people have had from being in school as much as possible. Other highlights from the week include our new student ambassadors taking up their role in school and demonstrating strong leadership skills in their work.
Over the coming weeks we will be able to share more with you about all of the amazing things your young people are involved in. Thank you so much for your support this week with uniform and ensuring that each young person is ready to learn - it has made for a very smooth start to the new academic year.
Thank you to parents and carers of Year 11 students, who joined us for our Information Evening last night. Information will be shared next week with those who were unable to attend.
What’s going on in school:
- Netball Club is starting next Wednesday 3.30pm – 4.30pm. This is a FREE club open to all years and all genders. Just turn up at the PE changing rooms at 3.30pm with appropriate footwear. We especially welcome Y7 students. Matches will start in three weeks’ time, so time to start training!!
- We are looking forward to the first of our Interhouse tournaments next Thursday morning. Y11 will get the ball rolling, with 7 a side netball and 5 a side football.
Arbor App
We would be grateful if you could check that all information on the Arbor app is correct and that additional emergency contacts have been added. There are also several consents which need to be completed on Arbor, particularly for new students in Year 7. Thank you.
Language Revision Guides
Y10 and Y11 GCSE language revision guides have now arrived. If you have ordered a book, please see Mr Barnes in the MFL department.
School Transport
A polite reminder to please ensure your young person has their bus pass for travel on the correct school services. Without it, they will have to pay the daily fee to the driver. For students travelling on the 272 and 257 services from Sheffield, passes are not transferable between bus companies and the daily fee will be payable if using an alternative route. For lost bus passes, please ask students to come to reception to order a new one.
6th Form College Open Events and Deadlines
The autumn term is when the majority of 6th Form college open events take place, and a full list will be sent out shortly. The earliest event in the calendar is Aquinas College, in Stockport. Their first open event takes place on Saturday 20 September. More details here: https://www.aquinas.ac.uk/apply-now/open-events/
Their application deadline is 30 November 2025, which is much earlier than most other colleges.
