Headteacher's Update 7 November 2025

Dear Parents and Carers

It has been a positive first week of the half term and it was lovely to welcome students back into school. The rain over the holidays has meant we have had to put the field off-limits during break and lunch, but this has meant our table-tennis season has started in earnest. Students from all year groups come at break and lunch to hone their skills and it is such a wonderful thing to watch.

We look forward to welcoming parents and carers of Y11 students into school next Tuesday for our Subject Evening. If you haven’t already done so, please book appointments via Schoolcloud. Bookings close on Monday 10 November.

What’s going on in school:

  • Our Sports Leaders did a fantastic job organising, planning and delivering a sports event for children in KS1 in our local primary school on Thursday this week. This was a full day, with sessions in the morning and the afternoon and all those involved worked really well to ensure the younger children had a great time!

  • Students have been busy making poppies to adorn our wonderful dress, which is now on display in reception. We will be marking Remembrance Day with a 2 minute silence at 11am on Tuesday. Any students who attend cadets for any of the armed services are welcome to wear their uniforms to school on this day.

  • Y11 GCSE German students have been revising for their upcoming mock speaking exams next week. They have been anticipating the types of questions that might be asked during the exam, and preparing extended answers that show off their vocabulary, complex grammatical structures and opinions. Well done Y11on your incredible hard work, and good luck!

Non-uniform Day

There will be a non-uniform day on Friday 14 November in aid of Children in Need, with a suggested voluntary donation of £1 per student. Donations can be made via ParentPay or in cash on the day via tutors.

Scholastic Book Fair – Tuesday 11 – Monday 17 November

We are holding our annual Scholastic Book Fair next week, when the library will open as a pop-up bookshop each lunchtime from Tuesday 11 to Monday 17 November. All books will be hot off the press and there will be a fantastic range of fiction, non-fiction and stationery to choose from. Payments may be made online or using cash and students will be able to reserve items and pay next day. All sales will earn us free books for the library through Scholastic Rewards, so the Book Fair is an excellent way of supporting reading in school and ticking off some items on your Christmas shopping list. Please support the Fair by encouraging students to visit.

Y11 mock exams

The Y11 mock exams will run from Monday 24 November to Thursday 4 December. Please see the link to the timetable here Hope Valley College - Examinations  Students will be handed their statement of entry nearer the time. Please remind your young person to bring the correct equipment to each exam as we only have a small number of spares to lend out to students. Exam pencil cases can be purchased via Parentpay and collected from Reception.

Sheffield Shoebox Appeal

Students at Hope Valley Pathways are supporting the Sheffield Shoebox Appeal this year and would love to receive some donations so that they can make up some gift boxes. Ideally, we would like loose items rather than fully made-up boxes so that the students can make up the boxes themselves, but if you do have any shoeboxes, Christmas paper/gift bags or Christmas cards to donate, they would also be gratefully received.
