  • Headteacher's Update

    Dear Parents and Carers

It has been another busy week in school.  This week, we have marked Holocaust Memorial Day in assemblies and spent some time reflecting on those events. We have also set Year 9 on their journey towards their GCSEs during our options preferences evening, where parents and carers had the opportunity to find out about the different course available for our young people. I have been able to spend time talking with Year 9 about their future ambitions in options interviews and have been inspired by some brilliant career plans and aspirations.

As always, there has been lots going on in school, with plenty of chances for students to get involved in extra-curricular activities and opportunities for personal development.

Next week, Year 11 students will take their mock exams in core subjects. We wish them well with their revision.

    What’s going on in school?

    • KS3 members of our climbing club took part in a qualifying round of the Inter-schools Bouldering competition at the Climbing Works in Sheffield last Friday. They each had to complete up to 15 bouldering problems and were awarded points. Another group will also compete next Friday, then the top 6 placed competitors stand a chance of going on to take part in the finals. Well done to all involved and thank you to Mr Fitton and Miss Townend for accompanying students.

    • Students have been taking part in the Duolingo streak competition for MFL. Students need to email a photo of their Duolingo stats to Mr Barnes, so that he can update his records. Prizes will be awarded later in the year.
    • Representatives from our Student Council met with our Catering Manager last week to feedback on school food. They provided some really useful feedback and were interested to hear that the catering team will be offering monthly theme days and a new ‘Street Vibe’ where students can ‘choose it, add it, top it!’. Student Council will share the information from their meeting with their tutor groups next week.
    • Students from KS3 took part in a Panathlon event held at Chapel school on Thursday this week and came 4th overall – a brilliant achievement! The HVC team worked so well together to help one another and overcome nerves to compete. A special mention goes to Team captain Ruby in Y9, who did a great job encouraging everyone to participate.

    Y10 Subject Evening – Monday 9 February

The Year 10 Subject Evening will take place in school on Monday 9 February. This is an opportunity to talk to teachers about progress, attainment and attitudes to learning. Details about how to book appointments have been shared with parents and carers.

    Arbor – Student Forgotten Passwords

If students have forgotten their Arbor password or cannot log in to the app on their phone, they can either:

    1. Manage the re-set themselves by:
    • clicking the ‘forgot your password’ link on the login screen
    • logging in to their school emails and following the instructions in the email Arbor will send
    1. Ask school to do a manual password re-set for them by:
    • going to reception before school or at break/lunch

In both cases they will need to actually type their new password into their phone when next logging in to the app as otherwise their phone will just continue to remember their old password and stop them logging in.

    Lost Property

We have quite a few unnamed coats in lost property at the moment. If your young person thinks they may have lost a coat, please ask them to check at Reception. Any items that remain unclaimed will be donated to charity at the end of next week.
