  • Headteacher's Update 27 February 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers

We have begun the second half of the academic year. Students have come back from their break and have been positive about their learning this week in school. Year 11s will receive their exam timetables next week and all of a sudden that final part of their school career becomes very real. Year 9 will make their final choices on options (information below) and that is also an exciting opportunity for them. This week we have spoken to our young people in assembly this week about school expectations. Our whole school attendance still places us in the bottom 10% of all schools nationally so we have re-iterated the message of the importance of being in school as much as possible. For a short school term there is a lot happening and we want our young people to make the most of every opportunity.

    What’s going on in school?

    • Netball training started again this week with a great turn out. Training takes place on Wednesdays after school from 3.30 – 4.30pm and is open to everyone.
    • Students in Hope Valley Pathways worked with the National Trust rangers earlier this week, assisting with wood collection and storage. Students are working regularly with the local rangers to develop their understanding of the countryside and their maintenance practices to enhance and develop the areas of outstanding natural beauty.
    • Well done to Junior in Y8, who is doing brilliantly with his swimming for his club, Stockport Metro. At their annual awards, Junior won third place for under 12 boys, as well as 4 silver medals and 3 gold medals! He also qualified for 15 races in the Cheshire Counties Championship and came away with bronze, placing third overall in his age group. He also managed to smash 13 new PBs!!! Over half term, he travelled to Lanzarote to train in preparation for the upcoming British National Championships, swimming over 10km each day!

    Year 9 Options information

We will share our proposed option blocks with Year 9 students and families next week. Thank you for your patience while we work to create the best possible opportunities for students. Students will then have a week from receiving the option blocks to indicate their choices in each block.

    Year 9 Pastoral Support

Year 9 have now transitioned into the Key Stage 4 pastoral team under the leadership of Mr Jenkinson. This is to facilitate the options process and ensure that our students are fully prepared for their transition to exam courses and other demands of Years 10 and 11.
