  • Headteacher's Update 26 June 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers

Please enter some content for your news story here.

Despite the weather, this has been a busy week in school.  Students have been exemplary in their conduct this week and we would like to thank parents and carers for your support in ensuring that our young people have continued their learning. They have approached this week with good humour. We expect students to be in correct uniform next week.

We are due to finish our well dressing today ready for Wakes Week and the students have worked hard on this. We would like to thank our Year 10s whose conduct in exams has been exemplary. And we would like to invite you to join us tomorrow at our Music and Mayhem event where our students will be showcasing their musical talent.

    What’s going on in school?

    • Staff and students have been busy working on our well dressing for this year’s Wakes Week celebrations in Hope. The ocean- themed design was produced by Y7 students and painstakingly recreated in floral-form. Thanks to Ms Garland-Taylor for coordinating the project.

    • Congratulations to all students who auditioned and interviewed for Frozen. We announced our Cast and Crew list this week, which was received with lots of excitement! More information regarding rehearsal schedules and materials will be shared shortly.

    • Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh students are working hard this term to prepare for their practice expedition on 16 and 17 July. We are currently looking at route cards, a tricky task where students have to work out their location using grid references, their direction of travel, and using Naismith's Rule, students are demonstrating the importance of numeracy skills for estimating their hiking time. Keep at it DofE students, well done!

    • Our Outdoor Activities programme continues with climbing sessions for Year 9 students at Burbage. Ms Wain-Hobson and her trusty team of volunteers have seen some real resilience and determination with groups who have been out so far.

    • Good luck to Charlie in Y9 who is off to France to compete in the BMX Racing European championships in Sarrians, alongside 2400 other riders.

    • Winston and Jem in Y9, along with James in Y7 recently took to the stage in the Hathersage Players production of Good Night Mister Tom. The show was sold out and their performances were amazing! Well done to all involved.
    • This week we say goodbye to our amazing ITT students who have been working with us, alongside the Sheffield Teaching Alliance and Sheffield Hallam University. All four staff members have had a positive impact on our young people, both in and out of lessons. Thank you to Mrs Hale who has overseen their training and has continued to be an excellent mentor. We wish them luck in their future jobs and careers - well done!

    Non-uniform Day – Friday 3 July

There will be a non-uniform day on Friday 3 July to celebrate Diversity and Inclusion at HVC. Voluntary donations can be made using Parent Pay or cash can be handed to tutors during tutor time. Clothing should be appropriate for the school environment and pyjamas should not be worn.

All students are welcome to attend; please bring a small amount of cash if you would like to buy cake and/or jewellery. All proceeds will be donated to diversity charities.

    Careers Education in School

We are gathering some student voice about our careers offer in school. Mrs Starbuck-Ahmed has sent all students an email with a link to a survey from the Careers and Enterprise company. Please can your young person fill out the form at some point this week. All students who fill out the form will be entered into a prize draw.

    Y8 PGL Trip

There will be a final meeting for all Y8 students attending this trip on Wednesday 8 July during tutor. Students should register first, then go to ICT 1.

    Music & Mayhem – Saturday 27 June 10am – 2pm
