  • Headteacher's Update 10 July 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers

We are approaching the final days of the academic year and there are lots of activities planned. We will send more information next week about the final 3 days in school.

This afternoon we held our annual careers fair, giving students in Year 10 and Year 9 the opportunity to engage with over 20 employers, educational establishments and opportunities.

Last week, we celebrated with our Year 11 students at their Prom. It was such a lovely evening and a great opportunity for them to reminisce about their time at Hope Valley College and to celebrate the end of two years of hard work towards their GCSEs.

We look forward to seeing them in August for GCSE results day, but for now they can enjoy a long (hot!) summer and a very well-earned break.

    What’s going on in school?

    • On Wednesday 8 July, we welcomed children from our local Primary Schools to watch our annual Primary Music Showcase. This was a celebration of bands and soloists and the children and staff had a very enjoyable afternoon!

    • Good luck to our Y10 students who are on work experience next week. We hope they enjoy their placements.
    • Students in Y8 will travel to Lincolnshire on Monday for their PGL residential trip. We hope they have a wonderful time. Students who are not participating in the trip should attend school as usual.
    • Students in Y7 are looking forward to their Humanities fieldtrip to Castleton on Wednesday. They should wear school uniform and wear footwear suitable for the walk to and from Castleton. Further details have been shared with parents and carers.
    • Students in Y9 who are working towards their bronze Duke of Edinburgh qualification are heading off on their practice expedition on Thursday and Friday. Information has been shared with parents and carers. Students who are not participating in DofE should attend school as usual.

    English Classes for Y10

Following a review of end-of-year mock examination results, we will be making some adjustments to the English teaching groups from September. This is a regular part of our Key Stage 4 intervention strategy, enabling us to address gaps in learning, provide targeted support, and maximise student progress and achievement. Students have already been informed of this process, which is designed to ensure that every student receives the most appropriate teaching and support to help them succeed.
