Principal's update 16 June 2023
Published on 16/06/23
Dear Parents and Carers
Well done to our Y11 students who are approaching the end of their GCSE examinations. Their attitude and behaviour have been fantastic throughout. With just a few more exams left next week, we hope they can then all enjoy some well-deserved down time.
It has been wonderful to see some of our students in Years 7, 8 and 9 revising for their assessments. Developing sound revision and retrieval practices in Key Stage 3 is a great building block for formal examinations in Key Stage 4.
What’s going on in school:
- Year 9 students were out and about in the hills again, this time weaselling at Higger Tor with Mrs Oldfield.
- Years 8 and 9 have had assemblies this week launching our Sport Leader Programme for 2023/24. This is a fantastic opportunity for students in Years 9 and 10 in 2023/24 to work with our local primary schools. Leaders will help organise, umpire/referee and coach primary students in HVC tournaments and festivals in a range of different sports. Examples of events that have been held this year include netball, tag rugby, cross country, orienteering, karate, dance, football and many more! Any student who is interested must complete an application form and hand it into Mrs Oldfield by 3.30pm on Friday 30 June. We look forward to receiving your applications - good luck!
Y10 Mocks
Y10 mocks will run from Monday 26 June to Thursday 7 July (please note that the Art mock will take place on 19 July), please see the link to the timetable below. More details about these exams will be available over the next few weeks and students will be handed their statement of entry nearer the time. Year 11 Parents
Our Second Hand uniform stock of larger sized HVC uniform is in serious need of replenishment! If your Year 11 has any Large or Medium Hoodies and T Shirts that is still of decent quality it would be gratefully received after they have finished their exams.
Denim material needed!
Our Y9 students need denim material – jeans, jackets, anything – for a project they are working on in Textiles. If you have anything suitable, please ask your young person to give it to Miss Nicklin.

We are currently recruiting for a Design Faculty Technician to work in our D&T and Engineering Department. For more information, please see our website: Vacancies - Hope Valley College (hopevalley-chorustrust.org)
